The film "The Help" has taken $123.3m since it was released, and this weekend saw off competition from the latest Helen Mirren film as well as space shocker Apollo 18.
It stars Emma Stone - soon to be seen in The Amazing Spider-Man - as a Southern belle who causes controversy when she decides to write a book about the black maids who have spent their lives taking care of rich white Southern families in 1960s Mississippi.
Elsewhere it was a disappointing weekend for many of the other new releases as the summer blockbuster season draws to a close.
The Debt, a thriller which stars Helen Mirren as a retired Mossad agent recalling a past mission, was the biggest new release, taking $12.5m to finish in second place.
